Reimagined vintage and antique furniture.

Oh, I Love Hat Box Dressers!!

Oh, I love hat box dressers!

One of the first pieces I ever painted was a hat box dresser.  It is one of my favorite pieces that I own for a couple reasons.  1: I found it at a flea market on one of the rare occasions that my husband was able to join me and 2: I just love the way it came out.

It will forever stay in my home… so, when this dresser came around I was thrilled!

I can thank the stranger that tagged my name on the Facebook yard sale site because I won this beauty!!!  And yes, you know your little business name is starting to get around town when people I haven’t met tag me online for vintage and antique furniture!!

So, since I love mine so much, I decided to refinish this one the same way.

I went “old school” on this one by using latex paint.  To begin, I sanded the entire piece both inside and out.  I primed the outside of the hat box using dark primer from Sherwin Williams.  Then, I painted the piece with two coats of an off-while color by Sherwin Williams.

The paint was distressed and sealed with both clear and antiquing wax.

The dresser top and drawers were sanded, stained, and sealed with polyurethane.

The color of the wood on this piece is gorgeous!  And the color contrast between the off-white and the natural wood work perfectly together!

Love the dresser, but don’t need one for your bedroom?  Dressers are versatile pieces of furniture…I use mine in my laundry room to store seasonal clothes!

This piece will be available for sale at my open house coming up on Saturday, September 17th!

Amy
